TÜV Austria OK compost HOME certificationCompost Manufacturing Alliance — Composter Approved

every roll of būmigro™ mulch film is independently tested and certified to break down cleanly — at home and in industrial facilities. these marks are third-party proof that the film returns to the soil without leaving microplastics or harmful residue behind, and we're pursuing every standard that matters to the growers and composters who trust us.

OK COMPOST HOME

The OK compost HOME certification confirms that būmigro™ — our microbe-edible mulch film — has been independently verified to break down under home composting conditions. While most compostability standards are built around the high heat of industrial facilities, this certification evaluates biodegradation at the cooler, ambient temperatures of a home compost pile — conditions much closer to those of a working field.

TÜV Austria OK compost HOME certification

To earn the mark, būmigro™ passed testing across three key criteria:

BIODEGRADATION
microbes eat the film and turn it into carbon dioxide, water, and natural matter
DISINTEGRATION
the film fully breaks apart and vanishes, leaving no pieces behind
COMPOST QUALITY
what’s left is clean compost that’s safe for soil and plants

for būmi, that’s compostability proven under real-world conditions, backed by a globally recognized standard.

COMPOST MANUFACTURING ALLIANCE

The CMA-I certification confirms that būmigro™ — our microbe-edible mulch film — has been field-tested and verified to break down in real industrial composting facilities. Issued by the Compost Manufacturing Alliance, North America’s leading field-testing certifier, the “I” designates Covered In-Vessel composting — the enclosed, high-heat systems used by commercial compost operations.

What truly sets CMA apart is that it doesn’t stop at the lab. Products are placed in working compost facilities and checked to conclusively confirm they actually break down under real operating conditions.

Compost Manufacturing Alliance — Composter Approved (CMA-I)

To earn the mark, būmigro™ passed testing across three key criteria:

LAB STANDARDS
meets ASTM D6400, the recognized benchmark for compostable products
FIELD DISINTEGRATION
proven to break down in a real industrial compost facility, not just under lab conditions
NO ADDED PFAS
verified free of harmful, intentionally added “forever chemicals”

for būmi, that’s compostability proven under real-world conditions, backed by a globally recognized standard.

Certification FAQ

Is būmigro mulch film certified compostable?
Yes. būmigro is independently certified to TÜV Austria OK compost HOME (breakdown at ambient home-compost temperatures) and to the Compost Manufacturing Alliance CMA-I standard, which field-tests products in real industrial composting facilities rather than only in the lab.
What standards does the film meet?
The CMA-I certification confirms the film meets ASTM D6400, the recognized North American benchmark for compostable products, and that it disintegrates in a working industrial compost facility. It is also verified to contain no intentionally added PFAS.
Does būmigro mulch film contain PFAS?
No. As part of CMA certification, the film is verified free of intentionally added PFAS — the so-called “forever chemicals.”
What's the difference between compostable and soil-biodegradable?
“Compostable” standards (like ASTM D6400) prove a material breaks down under the controlled heat of a composting facility. “Soil-biodegradable” means it is digested by microbes in ordinary field soil. They are different conditions, which is why mulch film is tested for both.
Is biodegradable mulch film OMRI listed or approved for certified organic farming?
No biodegradable plastic mulch film is currently OMRI listed or usable on certified organic farms — USDA rules require the film to be 100% biobased, and no product on the market meets that bar. Compostability certification is a separate thing from organic certification. See biodegradable mulch and organic certification for the full rules.
